Have you ever told a friend or family member about your business plans?!

I suggest you keep them mum! I know that probably sounds negative, right? 😅

Here's the thing. I'm not worried someone's going to steal your idea. Because I believe there's enough abundance to go around for everyone. 🌍✨

But it's more about the fact that people won't really understand your idea, and because of that, they might try to talk you out of it. ❌

It's not that people don't want good things for you. It's just that people have all their own limiting beliefs about what's not possible for them! 🚫

So they're going to project those onto you about why your idea isn't great, why it won't work, and why you shouldn't spend your time on it. 🤔

Here are a few examples from my own life:
🎓 In college, the school counselor said I couldn't double major in 4 years. But I walked the stage with the rest of my classmates with two degrees.

💻 People say you can't make money off of blogging anymore. My monthly affiliate income says differently.

🛒 Someone told me that people don't buy printables on Etsy. The $100K+ that I've made begs to differ.

📚 I was told no one would buy a course to learn to sell printables. My 200+ successful students proved that wrong.

My point is that I have had a LOT of ideas. And if I would have listened to some of the people in my life who told me it wasn't possible, then I wouldn't be where I am today. 🚀

Let me be clear. I don't mean not to share your ideas with anyone. But I recommend that you choose the RIGHT people to share them with. Share them with people who support and encourage you, who have gone before you, and see the possibility in you. 💪💡

Did you know that when I first started my business, I was designing logos and helping people with their resumes? 😆 (That is a far cry from what I'm doing now!)

ACTUALLY, I have made a TON of pivots in business!

Truthfully, if you've been following me since the inception, you'd see this CRAZY progression...

Designing logos, resumes, and websites, switching to handmade party decorations, blogging, and postcasting, switched to printables, started a membership around fitness and mindset, YouTuber, then started coaching on printables and selling courses, and now I'm planning to create a community for creative online business owners to help them grow their businesses.

WHEW! That's kind of wild, right? It sounds a little bit...all over the place?

And honestly, I'm being a little bit vulnerable sharing this with you because I'm sure there are some people on Instagram thinking, "What the HELL is she doing NOW!?" 😬

But in ALL honesty, this is what running an online business ACTUALLY looks like.

It's messy and all over the place!

When you first get started, you have NO idea where it's going to take you!

For me, I just had this "feeling" of where I wanted to go, but I didn't really know how I was going to get there or how long it was going to take.

And that can feel lonely, scary, and sometimes hopeless. Do you ever feel that way?
If so, I want you to know that I am SO grateful for all those pivots because I've learned so much along the way.

I guess the point of this is to help you see that if you're already in business or you're thinking of getting started, just know that how you start is likely NOT how you will finish! (And that's a GREAT thing!)

My one piece of advice about it is to "just do the next best thing".

As a rather private person who likes to work BEHIND the scenes, I had a coach say to me one time, “Lindsay, what if people saw you? What’s the worst thing that could happen if you showed up, exactly as yourself, and people SAW you?”

As much as maybe it doesn’t sound that profound, it was to me.

It made me think, what was I so scared of?

What if people really did see me?

Well, they might not like me.

Ouch. That sucks huh?

And then I realized.

People already don’t like me.

And guess what!?

And I’m still living.

Does it sting sometimes when I find out someone doesn’t like me?

Sure.

But it’s not going to stop me from moving forward, from growing my business, or helping other business owners find out what it is that they need to confront in order to grow their businesses.

So what’s slowing you down from starting/growing your online creative business?

Are you scared to be seen like me? If so, then as Joey says, “Jump off the high dive. stare into the barrel of a gun. Pee into the wind!”

Because, things don’t change if you don’t.
