How Does a Gratitude Journal Help with Personal Development?
Why is writing in a gratitude journal so helpful? Well, did you know most of your thoughts are automated? That’s right. For example, about 95% of your thoughts come from your subconscious mind. Your subconscious mind is derived of the thoughts and beliefs you created earlier in life. And by earlier in life, I mean very early- like your first five years!
So, when you decide to make any changes to your thoughts around gratitude you have your work cut out for you! It’s your new thoughts, versus the 95% of thoughts you’re used to. And that’s why we write in our gratitude journals.
When you actually put pen to paper, it shines a flashlight on your typically automated thoughts and allows you to analyze them. You can then truly evaluate the thoughts more critically, instead of just accepting them as fact.
How to Use A Gratitude Journal For Personal Development
All that said about your subconscious mind, it’s important to constantly question everything. Question your beliefs. Ask yourself why you think the things that you do. Get curious. Are the things you believe always true, or just sometimes? Are your beliefs inherited? What if they weren’t true?
Asking more questions is how we evolve and embark on this personal development journey. It’s how we start to see things from different perspectives, instead of the same lens we’ve been staring through our entire lives. Therefore, the more things we can see from a different perspective, the more we’re going to understand that there is always another way to look at everything.
Personal Development Questions
When it comes to How to Use A Gratitude Journal For Personal Development, it’s all about asking more questions. For instance, here’s a few questions to get started.
- How can I use a challenge I’m facing in my life as an opportunity?
- Is a problem I’m facing truly a problem or am I over-thinking it?
- If I’m not my accomplishments, my job title, or my relationships, who am I?
- If I understand that this is all for a higher and bigger purpose, can I relax more?
- When I realize that I am unique and part of all that is and will be, how can I live my purpose more fully?
- What are my passions that align with my skills and talents, and how can I use them toward my greater purpose?
Journaling for Personal Development
In short, journaling for personal development can be one of the best ways for self improvement. In other words, you are forced to look at the thoughts that are trapped in your brain. We rarely take the time to analyze our thoughts and make an informed decision as to weather or not we should keep thinking them or not. I hope that journaling will help you improve as much as it has for me!
