I was no stranger to mindset work and personal development when I started my Etsy business. And if you’ve read about some of the transformations my business has gone through, then you know there were plenty of opportunities to learn and grow! But until I actually go through my own “failures”, that’s when it finally sinks in. That’s why there are a few Etsy Mistakes I’m Now Grateful For that I want to pass on to you, so maybe, you won’t make them in your party decorations business (or another business) on Etsy.

No one wants to make mistake, let alone be criticized for it! It’s one of the reasons why failing is so scary. As a self-proclaimed people-pleaser, it’s hard enough to put your work out there! Amiright?
But as the saying goes, “you don’t grow when you’re comfortable” and “you learn from failing”. True enough, the more I fail, the more I continue to see success in my business. That’s why I want to share these Etsy Mistakes I’m Now Grateful For because they have allowed me to be successful in my Etsy shop.
Etsy Mistakes I’m Now Grateful For: I made “bad listings” that didn’t sell
Well, guess what!? First off, you only learn from your bad listings. So it’s not a waste! And, in actuality, after a bit of time, these same listings actually DID sell. I was beginning to question if I was good at this whole party decorations thing. I really let imposter syndrome set it. But what I learned is that success isn’t instant, and a little patience goes a long way on your entrepreneurial journey.
People pleasing and working for free
Doing things for free? I don’t recommend it. It’s not sustainable. This mistake I learned the hard way. I really wanted to get more clients and 5-star reviews in the beginning, so I thought giving refunds anytime someone asked was a grand idea. Newsflash! It wasn’t. All that work and people-pleasing just showed everyone that I didn’t see my worth. It’s exactly the type of energy I didn’t want to put out in the universe.
One of the Etsy Mistakes I’m Now Grateful: Using trademarked images on Etsy
If you registered for my course that teaches you how to plan, create, and launch a printables business on Etsy, then you KNOW what I’m talking about, since we talk a lot about this on the inside. It isn’t okay to use clipart from Disney or other trademarked images. I quickly realized that in order to play with the BIG BOYS on Etsy, it was time to get it right – legally and financially.
Bottom line?
Mistakes aren’t scary, they’re practical. And the more mistakes you make, the less it stings. The more trials you endure, the more success it brings.
