Now that you know what digital party decorations are, you know that purchasing a digital party invitation for any occasion, like a bridal shower, baby shower, birthday party, grad party, or retirement party can be a great way to save money when planning a party. However, some people can feel a little intimidated by the idea that they’ll have to print it themselves! For example, you might be wondering how and where to print digital invitations. Let’s discuss!

Have you recently purchased a digital party invitation on Etsy or somewhere else on the web? Whether you purchased your digital invitation from my shop on Etsy, my digital parties on my website, or another online shop, you might have questions. I can absolutely relate to that. As an invitation designer, I always hope that my clients feel confident that they can print digital invitations themselves. Otherwise, you wouldn’t even pursue buying a digital invitation, right!? So let’s talk more about how and where to print digital invitations.
How to Print Digital Invitations
Let’s first talk about the how to print digital invitations! Firstly, you’ll need to download your digital invitation. If you purchased a digital invitation on Etsy, you’ll need to be on a computer to do so. (Nope! They don’t tell you that. So if you don’t have a computer, you might have to run to a neighbor’s house or head to a FedEx and use their internet.) If you purchased from another online retailer, like through my digital parties page, then the file will be emailed to you. You can download the digital invitation straight from your email.
Formatting a Digital Invitation for Printing
Next comes the formatting. Most of the digital invitations that I create (and many others on Etsy and elsewhere) will come as a standard 5 x 7 JPG file. A JPG file is your typical photo file, just like the photos that are on your phone. If you have a borderless printer, something I get into more in on my blog, The Best Paper to Print Invitations, then your job is pretty much done. You just click print, format to a 5 x 7 sheet of paper, and hit print. If you purchased an editable PDF Invitation, you’ll want to read How to Easily Edit and Print a PDF Invitation for tips, tricks, and tutorials.
However, if you don’t have a borderless printer, I have a workaround for you. This will also help you format your invitation if you 1.) want to be able to print your digital invitations 2-to-a page on regular letter sized paper. Or 2.) you need cut lines to assist you when you cut them. Below is a video to help you out with this workaround method.
How to Print Your Invitations Without a Borderless Printer
In case you want to skip the video, here’s what you’ll do:
- Open a blank Word Doc
- Click Orientation > select Landscape (So your page is the wider rather than longer. Is that the hot dog way? I forget! LOL)
- Copy the PDF Invitation and place it on your Word Doc
- Right click on the image > select “Wrap Text” > “Move In Front of Text”
- Right click on the image and copy and paste it so you now have two to a page
- If you need help with cut lines, go up to Insert > Shape, and insert a rectangle that runs behind your invitations. Right click the shape and “move it to back”. (This allows you to have cut lines on your invitations)
Where to Print Digital Invitations
Now, let’s talk about where to print your invitations. First, let’s talk about using a printing service, instead of printing your digital party invitations at home. If you’re using a service, which I will have some recommendations for below, you will provide them with one of two files. For a 5 x 7, just provide them with the original invitation that you purchased. If you just created a 2-to-a-page file using the instructions above, save it as a PDF file and provide them with that file.
Using a Printing Service to Print Your Digital Invitations
As much as I love printing at home, there are times when I recommend using a printing service. After a lot of trial and error, I am confident in my recommendations to help you decide the best printer option for your party decoration needs.
Sometimes it’s hard to know if there’s a trusted source when printing digital invitations. Therefore, if you are looking to have invitations professionally printed (for a baby shower, birthday party, retirement party, or any occasion!), I always recommend Vistaprint because they ship super quick and usually have great discount codes on their site!
Another Professional Printing Option for Invitations
Next, have you heard of Prints of Love? They are wonderful! Prints of Love is similar to Vistaprint in that they offer simplicity, affordability, and speedy online printing services. You get high quality, professional printing without wasting your time or sacrificing your budget. They print, for instance, cards, signs, posters, custom samples, addressed envelopes, and outdoor signage. They’ve got it all! My absolute favorite part is that they address your envelopes. Printing Digital Invitations at Home
If you decide to print at home, great! Let’s talk about some helpful resources for your printing at home needs. First, as mentioned previously, I wrote a blog about the best paper to use when printing digital invitations at home which is a must-read for great paper ideas.
If you are printing your invitation using heavy cardstock paper, that one can be a bit tricky. I am always printing on cardstock (like the heavy cardstock listed below) for my business, and it is frustrating finding the right printer for cardstock printing. That’s why, when I finally found the best printer for printing digital party decorations even on heavy cardstock paper, I had to tell everyone! Which is why I wrote another blog on the best printer for heavy cardstock paper, that you definitely might want to read if you are printing invitations on heavy cardstock paper.
I think that about sums up with everything you need to know about How and Where to Print Digital Invitations! I hope it was super helpful!
