When it comes to a Mother’s Day Gift, let’s be honest. Your mom doesn’t really want jewelry. Okay, maybe she does. 😉 But what’s the number one thing she really wants from you? I’d say it’s one of two things. Either to spend time with you, or feel the feeling that you get when your daughter tells you she loves you. There is nothing better, amiright? That’s why if you can’t give the first gift of time spent, then this present for your mom is the best idea EVER… or at least I think so. You tell me in the comments below what you think!
The Most Heartfelt Last Minute Mother’s Day Gift is a Mother and Daughter Shared Journal
When I went off to college (back in the day), I was SO excited, as most 18 year-olds are. But when my parents drove away from my dorm room, I felt kind of sad. You see, back then, I had the Nokia brick phone, and although it was capable of texting, I don’t think my mom knew the first thing about it. And, she certainly wasn’t going to go on AOL instant messenger to chat with me. That limited our communication to talking on the land line in my dorm or sending snail mail or emails to my Hotmail account. I know I’m dating myself here, but oh well!
And, if you’ve read about The Free Printable Gratitude Journal Worksheet, then you know I love to write. So with all these ideas in mind, it was then that I came up with the idea for The Most Heartfelt Last Minute Mother’s Day Gift – a shared journal between you and your mom!
In actuality, it wasn’t a mother’s day gift at all. In fact, you can give this to your mom any day of the year. However, if you’re looking for a last minute gift for the most special day of the year to honor mothers, then I think there’s nothing better.
The Most Heartfelt Last Minute Mother’s Day Gift is Free!
I literally cannot STAND when bloggers tell you that something is completely free and then it turns out they had a bunch of things lying around the house. Oh ya, that DIY framed mirror is totally free – when you have an extra miter saw lying around and the right can of paint, and a sander. (EYE ROLL!) This project, however, is much different. You could literally piece together a bunch of random pieces of paper and staple them together as your shared journal. Then it would be completely free.
However, if you want to invest just a small amount of money on a cute little journal that you can share with your mom, then it could cost you just under 10.00. I say, that is a steal, don’t you? Below, I’ve included a few super inexpensive journals to grab on Amazon!
DIY Mother Daughter Journal
The mom and daughter journals that I listed above from Amazon are guided journals. But you absolutely don’t need that. You can just grab a small notepad or a blank journal and write your own notes back and forth with each other. That way, it serves as an excellent chronological collection of memories. When you go back to read it in years to come, you are going to love having those notes from your mom, and she’ll love having them from you.
In the journal I made for my mom, I have journal entries about moving into my first apartment. We share stories from graduating from college, my wedding day, buying my first house, and when I was pregnant. It’s so wonderful to have those notes from each other. Now we can relive some of the magic of those days.
You can dedicate pages to things you’ve done together, special events, or reflecting on the past.
In fact, we wrote so many notes that we even had to start a new journal at some point. So now I actually have two separate mother-daughter journals.
The Most Heartfelt Last Minute Mother’s Day Gift: A Happy Planner
The two-journal thing actually could have been avoided if I did it similar to my DIY Baby Book where you just slip pages into a binder. Alternatively, I could have just used a Happy Planner Journal. Have you heard of a Happy Planner?
The reason why a Happy Planner works so well for this kind of thing is that it has these things called discs. The discs allow you to add, remove, and rearrange pages with ease! It’s the MOST perfect solution for this type of shared journal with your mom. If you want to rearrange the pages, or go back and insert photos from a particular occasion, you are never locked in to the current arrangement of the book. Plus, there are SO many cute Happy Planners to choose from. Here’s a few ideas below, but there are plenty more Happy Planner options on Amazon!
And don’t forget all the Happy Planner accessories to go with it! You can grab dividers, and hole punchers to make sure your shared journal is the perfect option for you!
The Most Heartfelt Last Minute Mother’s Day Gift
You may know that my mom just recently passed away from breast cancer. When my mom was in her last months, I brought the journals to her bedside and read a few of the entries. (Talk about waterworks!) I know she appreciated that moment. And I was so glad that we created the journals so that I had something super personal and memorable between us.
Here’s the very last page of our shared journal together…
At the moment I’m writing this, it’s still a little too painful to read through these journal entrees. However, I know one day the pain won’t be as fresh. Then, I will truly appreciate the memories and the notes to one another. I want to pass on this gift to you. Therefore, you have something memorable with your mom no matter what happens in your future. I truly hope it brings you joy between you and your mom.
