Are you thinking about designing and selling printables? If so, you might be wondering what’s the best way to create them in terms of design software programs. I can definitely relate to this, since I switched my party decorations to printables and now sell them in my Etsy shop. However, it might surprise you to know that I don’t use Canva to design them. Whaaaa? Yep! So let’s talk about Why I don’t Use Canva to Design and Sell Printables.

If you’ve ever visited my Etsy shop, you might know that I sell printables. I specialize in printable party decorations, since I used to sell printed and shipped party decorations. However, I sell quite a few other printables outside the party decorations arena as well.
Why I don’t Use Canva to Design and Sell Printables
Okay so what’s so wrong with Canva, and why don’t I use it to design and sell my printables on Etsy? First off, there’s nothing wrong with it. And I love it for other areas of my business. But, I don’t use it to create and sell printables. So let’s talk about why.
First, if you’re going to be a professional, I believe you have to act like one. So if you’re using a free program to create a business, you have to ask yourself if that’s going to get you the results that you want.
And while we’re on the subject of results, let’s talk about what results you can get with Canva. While Canva is a really intuitive design platform, there’s a lot of features it can’t achieve that you can achieve in photoshop. It leaves Canva-users people feeling frustrated and uncreative.
On another note, one of my students recently brought up the fact that if you sell printables using Canva, people can just purchase them, and then resell them. One would argue that this is also the case for Photoshop, but it’s worth mentioning here.
And lastly, there’s the fact that if you do decide to upgrade to Canva pro, the clipart and fonts you select for your printables won’t be available to your customers who have the free version.
What Software Programs Do I Use to Create Printables?
Okay, so if everyone else is using the Free software, Canva, to make and sell printables on Etsy, why don’t I do it? Well, there’s your first clue. Everyone else is doing it.
If you want your printables to stand out, and for your customers to find something that they’ve never seen before, you’re going to want to go with a design software program that is going to give them differentiated results, right?
That’s why I personally use Adobe Software to design all my printables. And you can read more about why I use Adobe Photoshop to design my printables here.
