If you’re just getting your Etsy shop set up to sell digital products, there are so many questions you’re probably asking. I can relate, since I create and sell printables on Etsy! One of the questions you’re inevitably asking is about SEO, and how to find the BEST keywords for your products. So today I want to talk about What Etsy SEO tool is the best so that you can get answers!

What is SEO?
SEO is an important thing to learn about if you’re just getting started on Etsy. SEO means search engine optimization. It’s kind of an intimidating word to Etsy newcomers because it sounds really complicated. But is it, really?
The short answer is no. However, it can take a little time for you to wrap your head around it if you’ve never worked in SEO before. For me, SEO is a simple concept because my first job out of college was working for Ask.com in their online advertising business. And online advertising deals a LOT with SEO.
SEO, in simple terms, is just the keywords people are using to find your products. Yes. It’s truly that simple.
The Best SEO Tools for Etsy
The Best Etsy SEO tools help you choose the best tags and keywords to put inside your listing descriptions on Etsy. They tell you what keywords are ranking higher in the Etsy algorithm and which ones you should have on your listings over others. Additionally, these tools have a lot of other added benefits like reviewing your current listings for misspellings, where you rank compared to other Etsy sellers, and a way to see how saturated specific keywords are on Etsy.
Here’s a list of a few SEO tools that you can look into:
- Sales Samurai
- eRank
- Etsy Hunt
- Everbee
- Marmalead
The Problem With SEO Tools for Etsy
I want to be completely upfront with you about the fact that I did not grow my shop using any of these tools! And I am totally serious. I repeat! I did not look into any of these tools until AFTER I had already reached 10K+ sales on Etsy.
And I’m telling you this because new Etsy sellers get so caught up with SEO tools. And, as I said before, it’s because they feel intimidated because they don’t quite understand what SEO is. Therefore, they’re constantly seeking out SEO new tools if sales aren’t booming.
The truth, however, is that while SEO is important, SEO does NOT rank your products on Etsy.
SEO Does Not Rank Your Products on Etsy
Wait, what? Search engine optimization doesn’t rank my products on Etsy?
That’s right. And you can see this if you name one of your products some extremely arbitrary title that no one else is using. Guess what? When you type that weird word in to Etsy, your listing will come up at the top. And that’s just because no one else is using that keyword. There’s no competition.
The truth is, SEO makes your products eligible for ranking on Etsy. It puts them in the right pot. So if you aren’t ranking on Etsy, is SEO to blame? It’s possible, but not the end all be all. The true way to get a higher ranking on Etsy is through your quality score, NOT your SEO. And your quality score is determined by customer trust – i.e. people buying your stuff and telling you how good it was.
What Etsy SEO tool is the best?
So, what Etsy SEO tool is the best? Well, I personally teach my students to use Everbee and eRank. However, I don’t necessarily think they’re the best. In fact, dare I say you can grow your Etsy shop without using ANY of these tools!? I know. People are going to be outraged, but I’m just speaking from experience here. And I hope that experience helps you a bit in your Etsy journey.
What do I really recommend to grow your Etsy shop? Change your habits. Why? Because if you build consistent habits for your Etsy shop, you’re going to make much more progress than if you switch back and forth between these SEO tools, asking, what Etsy SEO tool is the best, and not getting anywhere. Stay tuned for my blog next week with the top habits you need to see consistent growth in your Etsy shop!
